Repiping

Whole-home repipe, 1950s bungalow

Original galvanized supply lines had narrowed to pencil-width with corrosion — brown water every morning and a shower that quit whenever the washing machine filled. We mapped all fourteen fixtures, repiped in Type L copper to match the owner's preference for the original material, and kept the family in the house the entire time with water restored each evening. City inspection passed first visit; access openings patched paint-ready.

Outcome: Clear water, 58→78 psi at the furthest fixture, 2-year workmanship warranty

Water heaters

Tankless conversion for a family of six

Two teenagers, a nightly bath schedule, and a 50-gallon tank that surrendered by 7 p.m. Rather than upsize to a bigger tank, we ran the numbers on a condensing tankless unit: upsized the gas line, re-vented through the rim joist, and reclaimed a closet's worth of floor space where the old tank stood. The unit was sized from measured winter groundwater temperature, not a brochure chart.

Emergency

Midnight main-line burst, Riverbend

The 12:40 a.m. call every homeowner dreads: water sheeting down a finished-basement wall. Our on-call plumber walked the owner through the main shut-off over the phone — damage stopped before we'd even left the shop. On site by 1:25 a.m., we isolated the split copper section behind the wall, sweated in a repair coupling, and pressure-tested before sunrise. The written report and photos went straight to their insurance adjuster.

Outcome: Water back on by 4:30 a.m.; call-out fee credited to the repair

Leak detection

Slab leak found without breaking the slab open blind

A $300 spike in the water bill and a warm stripe across the hallway tile. Acoustic listening and thermal imaging put the leak within a six-inch circle under the hall — but rather than jackhammer, we quoted both options honestly: spot repair through the slab, or rerouting that line overhead through the attic. The owner chose the reroute; the slab stayed intact and the abandoned line was capped and documented.

Outcome: Bill back to normal next cycle; zero demolition to finished floors

Drains

Root-bound sewer line, Old Mill District

Annual backups every spring, "fixed" every year by another auger visit. Our camera showed why: a maple root mat at the clay-pipe joint, forty feet out. We hydro-jetted the line clean, showed the owner the footage of the cracked joint, and quoted a spot liner repair — ending the yearly ritual instead of billing for it again. Sometimes the right fix costs more once and nothing thereafter.
